CAPE HATTERAS NATIONAL SEASHORE - 70 miles of uninhabited beaches, sand dunes, marshes and woodlands on Hatteras Island. The tallest lighthouse in the U.S., Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, built in 1879 (recently relocated back from beach), is also located here. Open April-October. Bodie Island Lighthouse and Pea Island Welcome Center are also located here.

ELIZABETHAN GARDENS - Ten acres of 16th century style gardens, with beautifully landscaped paths, bordered by flowers and foliage, priceless antique statuary, located in the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. Open year round.

THE LOST COLONY- America's first and longest running outdoor drama; the unsolved historical mystery portraying the first English colonists' struggles in settling the New World. Performs mid June - late August.

FORT RALEIGH NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE - Actual site where Sir Walter Raleigh's explorers and colonists attempted to establish the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Open year round.

JOCKEY' S RIDGE STATE PARK - The tallest sand dune on the East Coast. Guided \ hikes, lectures, world's largest hang gliding school, and activities for all ages. Open year round.

NAGS HEAD WOODS ECOLOGICAL PRESERVE - A unique 1000 acre maritime forest providing hiking trails and bird watching. Open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:00AM - 3:00PM.

NORTH CAROLINA AQUARIUM - A marine-oriented educational and research facility. Public aquarium and exhibits, films, field trips, guided tours and other group activities by appointment. Open year round (currently undergoing major expansion, reopening Spring 2000).

OREGON INLET FISHING CENTER - One of the largest fleets of sportsfishing boats on the mid-Atlantic Coast. In season, boats return to port around 4 to 5 PM with daily catches.

FISHING PIERS & SURF FISHING - Located near three fishing pier, in-season offering 24 hour fishing from piers, or fish right from the surf by the piers or in front of the hotel.

ROANOKE ISLAND FESTIVAL PARK - Historical, educational and cultural park located across from the Manteo Waterfront, featuring the 69-foot square-rigged sailing ship, the Elizabeth II, a replica of ships which transported colonists to Roanoke Island in the 16th century. The park also features an 8,500 square foot exhibit hall (great for those rainy days) and an outdoor Pavilion featuring live concerts throughout the summer. Open year round.

WRIGHT BROTHERS MEMORIAL - The birthplace of aviation featuring exhibits, full-scale replicas of gliders, the 1903 flying machine, and excellent oral interpretation of the history leading up to the first flight. Open year round.

OTHER ACTIVITIES - Hang gliding, golf, tennis, wind surfing, kayaking, scubba diving, air tours, canoeing, scenic boat tours, sailing, surf fishing, charter boat fishing, exploring old shipwrecks and good old fun in the sun strolling the lovely unspoiled beaches.
